Need somewhere to put these photos...
I'll try not to off topic this blog unless it's necessarily awesome.

Cedric Gervais - Molly - Electro House
my Google+ friends won't mind, but Facebookers beware.
Please help me find Molly!
There are comments that this song copies Rave 'n roll by Steve Angello... Sure. This is just a Build on of it.
I'm liking the beat of the song. it's still house, but that snare starts adding a nice touch at 0:47. Some really sick beats are added on throughout the rest of the song.
The sample is a very nice distinction point for this song. It just works well... But When you pair it with what's happening the video, The interpretation is... ummm... Let's just say, interesting. "She makes my life Happier"... Luckily, it's vague enough to be socially acceptable.
2:19 after the drop reminds me of video games. You know those cartoons awhile back where they would go into "Virtual Reality"? yup.
1:33 has that "Ghosts n stuff"ish synth that works really well with chords. Love that stuff...
Here's the no video version. Unfortunately, the song is cut differently, so my time references are useless here.
Overwerk - Buzzin - Electro House
Awesome, free Electro House!
This song is free on Overwerk's album: The nth degree

We have some piano style at 0:45. Definitely progressive house influenced.
Check out that first drop at 1:30, That's a pretty nice powerful rhythm coming from the main bass synth.
Unison - Porter Robinson - Electro House
Unison by Porter Robinson
Genre: Electro House
There is a Knife Party Remix of this song. Normally Knife Party cranks out some pretty awesome remixes and makes ok tracks much better.
In this case, I honestly think that the remix takes away too much of the lead melody of the original. This melody is Absolutely Golden and I found myself hummin this to myself.
It's catchy and carries the song well throughout it's length.
Compared to some others, this is certainly a nice easygoing track. The buildup at around 2:00 is a very smooth transition. Some really nice dubstep wobble elements are included, such as the slide at 2:20, but aren't too imposing on the track's previous mood.
If you need to find the download, don't forget you can email me about anything posted on this website:

Dubstep... Oh god...
Genre talk with Ethan again
today's subject: dubstep
"Hey, is this dubstep?"
-Ethan
well, lets find out!
once again, being a musician heavily influenced by the drums and beat patterns, i like to classify by rhythm.
but, hey remember that songs are often more than 1 genre as well.
Guidelines:
bpm is going to be 140. however, it is going to be in 2 step, or half time compared to the 140 of trance. This means it's going to sound like 70 bpm instead.
In musical terms we have the 1,2,3,4
Where bass drum is on the 1, snare is on 3.
perhaps the artists need to put it on half time on their magical music making machines to fit in all the extra spazzy beats that will follow.
compared to a house or trance beat that would have a 4 to the floor beat. 1,2,3,4 would all represent a bass drum hit.
Rhythm pattern often has these extra bass drum hits compared to a simple house beat.
you will find pickup and drop off beats to the snare and tuplets usually at the end of the pattern
And then there's the signature bass wobble. dubstep base. there no way to explain it other that pure electronic power in the form of base.
Deadmau5 - Ghosts and Stuff - Electro House
This is an example of wobble bass for those who haven't heard of it. actually, if you haven't, then what are you doing here?
the leading melody line at 0:47.
Benny Benassi and Skrillex - Cinema - Dubstep
right at the beginning of the song is al dubstep pattern. Notice how the bass drum is being thrown all over the place.
The Living Tombstone - Dubstep Dishwasher - Not true dubstep, but enough "wubs" to be classified as dubstep
Uh oh, we have a bpm of 110 ish? I'm guessing.
but we only have a simple drum pattern beat without any creative dubstep bassdrum extras.
I'm reluctant to call this song dubstep dishwasher, as it is not even true dubstep. and quite a boring and unoriginal track.
Now, some people may say. sure, it's classified as moombahton right?
I'd be reluctant to say so. I hate the people that say," it's slowed down to 110, so there fore it's moomba".
Moomba is all about the latin beat patterns. those need to be prominent. this dishwasher has only a little at it's talking break.
Spitfire - Porter Robinson kill the noise remix (victims moombah edit) -Moombahcore
at 0:17 is a latin beat. now where have I heard that before?
Oh that's where I've heard it... ummm lolz.
Here's a DjPon3 dubstep mix. pay attention to the drum Patterning.
I told you bro. I told you about the wubs. it's not all about the wubs!
"And then there was predator.."

Classifying Trance
These next 2 posts are going to be centered around stuff in my facebook posts. Just putting them up here, partially to have something up and partially before they get buried in older posts any further.
Genre talk with Ethan.
Subject: Trance
From what I can tell, there's one type of trance that stands out from the rest to me. Disclaimer that I definitively could be wrong but I'm backing this with a little research and experience.
Being a Drummer, I've always liked to classify by using drum patterns. it worked for most of the songs, until the trance complex came along... it confused me.
Here's the Guidelines I have So far
You have to look at the bpm. normally faster than house- around 140s even.
you can also tell by the common snare drum rolls/build ups.
Most of the Drum patterns start and another drum instrument will double time it. (in music speak)- 1,2,3,4 then 1,&,2,&,3,&,4,&. the &'s might be a hi hat for example.
Defining instruments are a "dreamy" type of synth. I can't explain it, you just have to listen to it. And also a very stagnant and repetitive bassline (sometimes it just alternates in octaves.)
lets listen to an example. hmmm... pick something from the library...
here! I didn't realize this was trance for awhile, in fact.
bpm is 133
At 0:24, we see the beat being split by hi hats.
at 1:10-1:18 we see a bass drum roll build up.
at 1:32, the beat is split by a snare drum.
and the steady bassline is heard at the beginning.

Basshunter - Russia Privjet (HQ)
www.youtube.com
"Russia Privjet" is track #12 from the Basshunter album "Now You're Gone" - out now on Ultra Records - ultrarecords.com
Archie - The Pinkie Pie Style- Hands up/Eurodance (but I call it Euro-Trance)
Now, a subgenre of trance that jumps out at me is "Hands up" or Euro (style) trance.
I'm not going to say euro-trance because technically that refers to any trance song that's from europe. it has nothing to do with genre. However, I use the label "Euro-trance" for this genre anyway because it sounds cooler than the other names...
Here, listen to this (attached free as well)

So, lets get to business. the difference this has in regular trance...
Normally it has that oscillating bassline more often (oscillate is tim's favorite word by the way)
Check out 1:21- The synth noise transforms, and it turns into that distinctive dream synth that we all love.
Vocals. normally they are here in euro trance. Bass in Your Face!!! and they are normally very positive, upbeat and about partying.

The Grand Opening of Zukovsky's Nightclub
"You should really make a blog. Call it like, EDM blog or somthing"
-Brendan
And that's what happened.
I also was going through my Communications Merit Badge packet and one of the requirements allows you to create a blog. So that sold it for me...
I might need help from my good friends. A lot of the Pictures of Goldeneye 007 won't allow me to upload on here as a background. Plus I suck at that kind of stuff, this is my first blog.
